Dieser Kurzfilm ist eine wahre Augenweide und ich wage wirklich zu behaupten, dass es der beste Roboterfilm 2011 sein wird (wenn nicht noch ein Hollywood Blockbuster dazwischenkommt – Transformers? Naja…).
Der Film vermischt raffiniert echte Filmaufnahmen und historische Fotos mit perfekten Animationen.
Und die Roboter wirken einfach atemberaubend natürlich und auf eine sehr technische Art sehr menschlich.

Kibwe Tavares hat ihn als Abschlussprojekt seines Architekturstudiums (!) erstellt und die Storyline auf den Unruhen im Londoner Stadtteil Brixton 1981 aufgebaut:

It was born from me exploring my relationship with race, class and architecture. I am from the area and I see the Brixton riots of 1981 indirectly a key driver into me going to uni and becoming an architect. So I wanted to retell the story with a Sci-fi twist without the associated ‚baggage‘ of being a young black Londoner.

»Brixton has degenerated into a disregarded area inhabited by London’s new robot workforce – robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks which humans are no longer inclined to do. The mechanical population of Brixton has rocketed, resulting in unplanned, cheap and quick additions to the skyline.

The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner city life, living the predictable existence of a populous hemmed in by poverty, disillusionment and mass unemployment. When the Police invade the one space which the robots can call their own, the fierce and strained relationship between the two sides explodes into an outbreak of violence echoing that of 1981.«

Oh ohhh, wieder so ein Zeitrafferdingens, bei dem jemand eine Kamera im Auto installiert hat.
Aber weil Chase Heavener einen Großteil seiner Fahrt von Las Vegas nach Salt Lake City in der Nacht gemacht und eine gute Kamera verwendet hat, sind großartige Lichtbildkompositionen zur Musik von Caribou (Jacknuggeted) und den Sounds von ihm und Tim Alward entstanden. Ab 1 Minute 20 wird’s dunkel und lichtorgiastisch.
